Prof. Yuval Ben Bassat

Research field: Late Ottoman history in Greater Syria and Palestine; the Ottoman Institution of Petitions; Mapping; Ottoman Gaza and Beersheba; Rural Populations
Prof. Ben-Bassat completed his doctoral studies at the University of Chicago in 2007, joined the faculty about a decade ago and is currently the head of the Department of Middle Eastern History. His fields of research include the Eastern Mediterranean basin during the late Ottoman period, including petitions of the imperial center, mapping, cities, rural and nomadic populations, the Young Turk Revolution of 1908 and World War I in Greater Syria.
