New publication by Dr. Federico Ugolini!

Congratulations to HCMH’s post-doc and research fellow, Dr. Federico Ugolini, on his article titled “The Roman Port of Trieste: Layout, Urban Context, and Harbour Facilities” published in the Journal of Ancient Topography!

This article explores the Roman port of Trieste, through an examination of literary, antiquarian and archaeological sources. It investigates the layout, urban setting and facilities of Trieste’s port. Using topographic observations and recent excavation data, it summarizes the form of the port and identifies harbour elements, including quay, moles, and lighthouse. It also explores its urban context, monumental character and the set of maritime villas equipped with docks that formed the port network of the Gulf of Trieste.
